Imagine one-sided Superbat where Clark is fully aware that Bruce has a crush on him but is being his repressed self about it, and Clark is just like, “I’m not gonna touch that :) you’re going to figure that out for yourself, buddy, and in the meantime, I’m just going to have a good time and be best friends with you as you inevitably pull yourself together enough to either fall out of love or to confess :) and I’ll just let you down gently because I care about you :)” but he absolutely 100% is using it to his advantage in the meantime. His puppy dog eyes had never been so effective before. He’s gotten out of Monitor Duty three times in the past month.

I gotta be honest, the Jatherine subplot is probably my least favorite part of the show (until west endsies, I really love what michael and bronté did), so 🎤

mmh yeah fair enough. they also rly sold it for me, but im gonna put them aside for a bit and just look at what we're given.

i think that maybe not notably but importantly, in watch what happens it's actually sort of explicit that kath does NOT like jack as a person, but literally. as a face. they meet and all she sees is an attractive boy in the street, (and i think it'd be cute if jack stares after her long enough for him to almost miss his "you struck out!" cue...) and he promptly bugs her until she sees who he rly is. legit all their content until wwh(r) is argumentative annoyances. we know that jack's much than that–maybe even the opposite of that–right off the bat with the prolue w/ crutchie.

so i think the genuine key to jatherine is where and when you stage miss girl katherine, when she's not speaking directly to jack.

sneaking her into moments where the real jack is seen. have her see him pick a kid up off the ground a few measures before "can I interest you in the latest news". have her be on her way to medda's show upstage when he's tugging the jacobs in front of him while running from snyder. have her watch more of the scene in jacobi's before she enters and see the pride these boys share in one another. uksies also did a great job at this tbf, but enforcing kath as the observer that denton was in 92sies would serve her so well.

because i think for katherine, which's different than davey imo, she cares first about the movement and learns to care about jack. she learns a lot about attraction because of jack, she thought she "knew what love was" or whatever, but there's something about him that changes her whole view, and i think it's learning that he is caring, sentimental, and afraid- and alone, even if he isn't actually. it's about finding the moments where kath also gets to express it back that is key, bc we already Know that abt jack as an audience- it's kath who's new to it.

give me an ACTUAL "you look like hell" moment. let her rush over to him despite herself, be surprised at her own action, nearly take his face into her hands before she notices how stiff and guarded he is right then. her feelings for him are a surpise, they "snuck up" on her, right, so finding THE moment where she understands that she has them? key. idt we ever rly get that enough so where it stands out.........especially bc davey exists and has multiple moments of this LMFAO.

jack being attracted to katherine is morrrre obvious i think, he has the i never planned on you thing, it's very clear he's making an effort to get her to stay longer or get to know her. kath is hesitant, and THAT'S very interesting, actually– but only if you do something about it.

i don't think i'll ever get over the comedic timing of being prepared to intubate an obtunded patient going into worse and worse shock on three pressors code cart in room pads on having like six people all staring at the vitals anxiously as this person might code at ANY MOMENT, me standing at the head of the bed ready to tube the second we have a safe BP and the nurse from two doors down comes into the room and says, 'hey doc, room x is in asystole' and just. walks away.

Certain fans pretending that Darius being a rebel came out of nowhere is so funny, because while, yes, the show's writing is not the greatest, and it is understandable for a casual viewer to miss the Blimp scene or that later Darius doesn't restrain the kids, but some of the supposed fans who over-analyze everyone else, just so happen to miss the way Darius talks to Hunter from the Blimp and that if Darius was a 100% bad guy there would be no reason for him to clearly indicate that he thinks capturing the children wasn't something to be proud of - especially in that tone of voice and with that expression, and that there was no reason for him to lie this way if he wanted to manipulate Hunter, and that that scene was meant to be a clear hint that he had a moral code of his own and wasn't absolutely on Belos' side, all before the episode's ending.

(And it is also funny because he is in only two episodes before the rebel reveal, in one of them he is already established as a complex character, so there is just not even enough episodes of him being a villain to declare that the rebel stuff came out of nowhere)

And it is absolutely understandable to just dislike the show's writing choices (i think its writing is at best uneven, but often just weak), but with some fans it is very clear that they only have problems with Darius and only because of Hunter and the one-dimensional, worst possible fanon interpretations of Darius' actual actions. (< - and this is my actual problem, not that someone missed some hints or just have a different interpretation). Especially blatant when the same fans defend almost every other writing choice.

And of course it just happens that fans almost never have problems with Eda and King's writing, even though they are main characters, and some choices about their relationship are much more puzzling if you look at them with the same scrutiny fandom looks at Darius.

And among white Hunter fans there is almost never any care or thought about how Darius being a villain would fit with what characters like Belos and Odalia represent, and what it would mean and how it would have been handled considering the way the show already treats its characters of color, especially black characters, and how it would fit into the existence of the trope among fantasy shows of putting dark-skinned characters into oppressive roles. But there is no consideration or care about it.

I have a lot of ideas but I am also very slow at writing long, coherent stories that’d fit them but I still have a lot of fun writing them down into lists. So here’s what I would do with Mahiru if I were to put him in a Human/No Powers/Mundane/Whatever else you’d call it AU. 

Mahiru as a chef, but specifically as head chef of a university canteen. He takes joy not only in providing food for a huge amount of hungry students, but also in figuring out the logistics of how to use their limited budget on creating menus to meet everyone’s needs, and keep them delicious, nutritious and affordable at the same time. His canteen has gained fame far beyond the university campus. 

Mahiru as a Respectable Adult who works a Respectable (if unspecified) office job. Among his coworkers he’s best known for staying late when no one else wants to, being the only one capable of getting “that” guy to do his job, and having won the company-wide cake contest every year he’s been working there. His compulsion to speak out against the arbitrary, unfair and intransparent decisions of upper management have gotten him into hot water more than once. 

Mahiru as a student with a side job in customer service – preparing drinks in a coffee shop or pointing people to the right aisle of a grocery store or manning the help desk to support fellow students navigating the dizzying world of university bureaucracy. His mental health is kept (barely) intact by the gratification he finds in helping others, and being stubborn enough to outlast anyone bold enough to act entitled in his presence. 

Mahiru as an instructor for classes on How To Be An Adult. He’s younger than a majority of the people attending, but he knows his stuff and no one questions his authority. He has a habit of pushing those he deems in need of them to attend. His roommate is on his third course. His best friend is on his fourth, even though he doesn’t really seem to need it. 

Mahiru as an ER nurse who’s really popular with patients but really unpopular with his superiors because he tends to not wait for a doctor disregard standard procedure when a patient is in need. However, the hospital has not been sued thus far, and no one has been able to actually prove anything yet as the doctors will always happily sign off whatever he did while they were occupied, since he is also very popular with them.
